Getting close to One Million Miles!

Melvin Willis bought his 1978 Chevy pickup with only 13,000 miles. He installed AMSOIL motor oil immediately. Willis and his truck have driven all over the country, totalling over 728,000 miles. Willis' oil of choice for his long-lived Chevy truck is AMSOIL 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil.

After driving a total of 275,000 miles, Willis had an ideal opportunity to purchase a new engine at an unbeatable price.  He bought the new motor and installed it in the truck. Naturally, he installed  AMSOIL motor oil right from the start. Willis and his Chevy have driven more than 450,000 miles with the new engine. Willis is particularly proud that  neither the valve covers nor the oil pan were ever removed from either engine.  "It's a good old truck," said Willis. "She still runs like new. I've driven it  so much it's on the third set of seats."

400,000 Miles and  Counting

Bill Anderson teaches automotive mechanics at Hermitage Technical Center, a vocational high school in Henrico, Virginia.  When he used petroleum motor oil in his 1978 Oldsmobile, Bill faithfully changed  the oil every 1,500 to 2,000 miles. After watching an AMSOIL lubrication and filtration seminar in 1985, Bill decided to switch the Olds to AMSOIL 10W-40 and install an AMSOIL Engine Oil Filter.

By following AMSOIL's  recommendations, Bill currently has 396,000 miles on his Olds and plans to reach  400,000 miles very soon. Bill still drives his car to work every day and on regular business trips, and he tells his friends and colleagues about the  advantages of AMSOIL over petroleum motor oil. In fact, Bill uses AMSOIL in his  boat, lawnmower, chainsaw and other personal equipment. .

What Do You Do When Your Car Accumulates Over 300,000 Miles?

Kenneth Lindland, a retired preacher from Grass Lake, Michigan, didn't reallly know what he was getting into when he purchased his used 1985 Pontiac Parisienne from his wife Agne's brother in 1989. At that time, the car had just over 57,000 miles on it, and Lindland said he would be happy if the car simply held together until 137,000 miles.

He got all that, and a lot more.

"The last thing on our minds when we obtained this car from Agne's brother was that we would drive it an unusual number of miles," Lindland said. "I figured if we drove it to 137,860 miles that we would have monies worth out of a totally depreciated car." Lindland soon had to recalculate his depreciation figures to 150,000 miles, and then to 200,000 miles. He would be recalculating those figures for quite some time, because the car was just too good to part with. "Because I had such short term milage expectations for this car, we didn't over-protect it. We used for jobs like trailering firewood and gravel at our cottage. This car vastly outperformed all our expectancies."

Because the car kept running dependably past all of his benchmarks after becoming fully depreciated, Lindland realized that the car was actually making him money at the depreciation figure of 10 cents per mile. By the time it had accumulated over 330,000 miles, Lindland decided it had saved him the nearly $20,000 he would have to spent on aquiring a new car. So when it came time for the Lindlands to purchase a motor home, those savings were instrumental in the decision to make the purchase. "This Pontiac actually bought our motor home for us debt free," Lindland said.

Lindland credits the car'slong service life to using Amsoil synthetic motor oil in the engine since the day he bought it. "I'm very grateful for the longevity which I believe Amsoil gave our vehicle," Lindland said. "We've kept it up, but as far as I'm concerned, the secret is lubrication."

Lindland also credits also Amsoil synthetic motor oil with savings associated with the costs of motor oil and motor oil disposal. "We have changed the oil only 11 times (every 25,000 miles) while we owned the car," Lindland said. "If we used conventional oil changed at conventional 3,000 mile intervals it would have required more than 400 quarts to last this long. We have used only 55 quarts for the oil changes and 13 extra quarts when changing filters. Just think how much oil this kept out of disposal units!"

Although the car has accumulated more than 340,000 miles, the engine and transmission are in remarkably good shape. In fact, it ran so well through the years that the head was never removed for any repairs. Lindland had a compression test done on the vehicle in December 2000, and could barely believe the results. The highest and lowest recorded cylinder pressures were only eight pounds apart.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Although the car seemed to have many miles left to travel, Lindland's wife Agnes finally convinced him that it was time to purchase a new car. "The longer he had the vehicle, "she said "the harder it was to make him get rid of it." It was with great reluctance on Kenneth's part that the Lindlands purchased another car. With appreciation they gave their Parisienne to Amsoil Inc. "I feel very indebted to Amsoil," Lindland said. "No way would this car have given us this fine service with conventional oils." The Lindlands drove up the 700 miles from Grass Lake, Michigan, to Superior on June 26, 2001. The car is now being driven by an Amsoil employee to see how many more miles can be added to the 340,000.

AMSOIL TRIGARD Gets  High Marks

As with so many people before him, Bill  Shirk was skeptical at first about AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants. "The idea  sounded too artificial to me," he said.

After doing some studying, Bill  decided to install the AMSOIL TRIGARD package into his then-new 1983 Dodge 250 Custom Van. The TRIGARD package and other AMSOIL products were installed at  7,500 miles. "In other words, it was bumper to bumper synthetics," said Bill.

Bill said his van works very hard due to the mountainous terrain of  North Central Pennsylvania. "The van is used as a limo, truck and tractor, and a  hauler. It hauls everything from AMSOIL to firewood."

Bill's van now has 233,000 miles on it, and the first oil drain was done at 231,000 miles. The  bearings and rings have not yet been touched. The factory ball joints and wheel bearings are still in place. The transmission was replaced at 166,000 miles due to a broken clutch and not because of the lubricant.

Bill is more than  impressed with AMSOIL. "Those kind folks who tell me that synthetic lubricants  like AMSOIL are no good usually change their minds after seeing this vehicle or talking to my mechanic who knows its history," he said.

California Dealer Jerry and Marion Kinyon's commerical account customer Hans Rishell, a self employed heavy equipment operator, has a great story to share.

Jerry convinced Hans to try AMSOIL in his 1994 UD 1800 Nissan truck. During December of 1999, Hans was working at a job  site 31 miles from his home. He would start each day by letting his truck run  for a few minutes and then driving back to the job sSynthetic Oil, oil, synthetic, engine, motor oil, synthetic lubricants, amsoilite. Upon returning to the site, Hans noticed a group of people standing around a pool of oil in the  parking lot. The group was speculating as to who had lost their oil. Hans said  his truck was running fine and went to work.

Later that day Hans decided to check his oil because no one had identified the vehicle that was leaking. When he checked his dip stick it came out dry. He added 4 gallons of oil on the site, the exact  amount needed for an average oil and filter change. Hans decided that the sump  and filters must have been dry. Through a more thorough inspection, Hans found  that his vehicle had a broken sending unit which failed to light his oil warning  indicator. Hans retraced his drive and found that an oil trail could be seen for  approximately 7 miles. When he returned to his home Hans found only several  small spots of oil in his driveway. This lead him to conclude his vehicle had been out of oil for nearly 24 miles on the way home the previous night, and had  warmed up and returned 31 miles to the job site that day without any oil in the  sump! His expensive engine had been running normally all morning, so Hans had no reason to suspect he had lost all of his oil the night before.

"It would have cost Hans $9,000 to $12,000 to rebuild his engine," Jerry said. "He asked me if I believed AMSOIL saved his  engine, and I told him yes, I believe it did!"

Mike Geho-Metz, West Virginia

I have been using AMSOIL Synthetic Diesel Engine Oil and the AMSOIL Dual-Gard By-Pass Filtration System, along with used oil analysis, for nearly three years. My 1997 Mack CH613 had 176,000 miles on it when I began using AMSOIL motor oil and the Dual-Gard System. At the time I bought this truck, the company I am leased to bought a number of identical trucks for their fleet. All of these trucks operate in much the same way, including operating environment, type of haul, etc. These trucks also have a dash mounted digital display of the lifetime average fuel economy. At this time my truck's average is 6.78 MPG, and the company trucks range from 5.8 to 6.2 MPG. The difference between 6.78 and a fleet average of 6 MPG is over 11 percent. That is significant savings, and the major difference here is I use AMSOIL and the company trucks use conventional oil!

Both the full flow and by-pass filters are changed regularly, and at each 20,000 mile interval, an oil sample is taken to monitor the oil's condition. Currently, I have 412,000 miles on this truck, the last 236,000 without an oil change. The oil analysis from Oil Analyzers, Inc. reports the oil is suitable for continued use and the engine runs great.

AMSOIL ATF Saves Starved Transmission

Duane Chism, from San Antonio, Texas,  converted his 1996 Ford F-250 to AMSOIL synthetic lubricants. Before he left on  a 6000-mile trip to the Pacific Northwest, he had the brake pads replaced, but  something went wrong at the shop.

"The brake shop mis-positioned the lift  arms" said Chism, "causing the truck to drop in the front."

The only damage they could see were two  broken steps on the cab and a damaged side mirror. What they didn't notice were  a dented tranny pan and crushed transmission coolant lines.

Thinking everything was fine, Chism left on  his trip, keeping an eye open for leaks under the truck. He was towing a 22-foot long Argosy trailer through varied temperatures and up mountain roads. Everything seemed fine.

"In New Mexico," said Chism, "we noticed a small quarter-sized drip when the truck was parked. When we got to Nevada, my  son-in-law crawled under the truck and discovered the crushed lines."

The truck's automatic transmission had gone  2000 miles with crushed transmission lines.

"A garage repaired the lines," said Chism. "The mechanic couldn't believe the transmission wasn't toast. We decided to continue our trip. Both I and the Ford mechanic agreed that the tranny would have been ruined if it weren't for the AMSOIL Universal ATF. The brake shop  owner is also glad I used AMSOIL ATF or he would have been buying me a new transmission instead of just a new pan and new lines."

Hawaiian Punch Monster truck owner Brian Cardiff

When it comes to this monster truck's 5-ton  military axles, 2 1/2-ton transfer cases and a 540 cu. in. supercharged engine, Brian Cardiff will rely on only one brand of lubricants and filters--AMSOIL!

"I have too much invested in this baby to use just any oil. I need the protection and performance that only a synthetic oil delivers. That's why I use AMSOIL. It's the best there is!
"We use the AMSOIL synthetic motor oils, greases, gear lube, by-pass oil filter and LT air filter on both the Punch  and our hauler, and I've never seen better results.

"For me, it's AMSOIL all the way."

Mack Truck Engine  Tear-Down after 409,000 miles without an oil change

After 630,000 total miles, and the last  409,000 without an oil change, a Virginia Mack Truck Dealership inspects the  Mack engine, under the watchful eye of an Engine Rater from Lubrizoil, and  determines the engine has no more wear than an engine using conventional oil and an oil change interval of 10,000 miles, thanks to AMSOIL Synthetic 15W-40 Heavy  Duty Diesel and Marine Motor Oil, AMSOIL By-Pass oil filters, and a diligent oil  analysis program. Complete Story.

500,000 Mile Pickup

Francis Ormiston's 1969 Cheverolet 1/2 ton pickup with a 396 V8 engine has seen some miles! This is a pickup that Francis used on his large farm in Kansas and during the summer of 1986 one of his farm hands "rolled" the truck. As a result, not wanting to do anything with it (it  was totaled) he pulled it behind the barn and let it sit. In August of 1989 he  decided to replace a diesel engine with a gas engine in another pick up and  decided to use the "69". At that point the 69 had 535,372 miles on it, 447,372  using AMSOIL 10W40. The oil was changed only one time per year (in early  spring). He decided that with 535,372 miles on it (never touched by a wrench)  that it might be a good idea to rebuild it before installing it in the other truck.

STATEMENT FROM THE MECHANIC
The mechanic who rebuilt the engine before installing it in the other truck had this to say, "When we took this 396 engine  apart, it was in the best condition of any engine I have ever seen. It looked like it had about 80,000 miles instead of over 500,000. The bearings were not  even worn to the brass and the rings were not worn out and it was clean inside, no sludge or carbon at all.... I was impressed with the wear and cleanliness of  this engine and the miles it had on it."
